Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for Women Across the Nation(WISEWOMAN)

Description: The WISEWOMAN program provides low-income,under insured and uninsured women aged 40-64 years with chronic disease risk factor screening, lifestyle intervention, and referral services in an effort to prevent cardiovascular disease. CDC funds 15 WISEWOMAN projects, which operate on the local level in states and tribal organizations. Projects provide standard preventive services including blood pressure and cholesterol testing,and programs to help women develop a healthier diet, increase physicalactivity, and quit using tobacco. Missouri's WISEWOMAN project, A NewLeaf…Choices for Healthy Living, is administered by the Department of Health and Senior Services (www.hpdp.unc.edu/WISEWOMAN/newleaf.htm)

Information Available: Latest news, basic anatomy/physiology of the heart,clinical trials, symptoms, prevention and screening, rehabilitation, research,treatment, specific populations, journal articles and statistics.
National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)

Description: The NHLBI offers leadership for a national program in diseases of the heart, blood vessels, lung, and blood; blood resources; and sleep disorders. The Institute plans, conducts, fosters, and supports an integrated and coordinated program of basic research, clinical investigations and trials, observational studies, and demonstration and education projects.

Missouri Heart Disease Prevention Program

Description: The Missouri Heart Disease Prevention Program focuses on primary and secondary prevention of CVD risk factors. Interventions include policy and environmental change programs to improve physical activity,heart healthy eating and tobacco free environments. The program partners with a variety of state, local and national organizations to implement these programs and provide training and resources to health professionals at all levels.

Description: Officially launched in April 2000, The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease maintains the goal of decreasing death and disability among women resulting from heart disease. The slogan for WomenHeart is "Early detection. Accurate diagnosis. Proper treatment."
