Advocacy Trainings

MFH works to build the capacity of Missouri nonprofits to provide a voice for the uninsured, underinsured, and underserved in the policymaking process through workshops, experiential learning, and technical assistance.   Training opportunities have included workshops detailing laws governing nonprofit organization’s involvement in lobbying, how to engage in health advocacy from a faith-perspective, and developing a mock public health advocacy campaign.  Check back to the MFH website for the latest available advocacy workshops.

The Link Project

MFH grantees work at the local level to address critical health care needs and can provide essential information to policymakers about the health challenges in their districts.  The MFH Link Project is an on-going effort which uses workshops and experiential learning opportunities to help grantees build and sustain meaningful relationships with policymakers.  As a grantee, organizations are eligible to have staff participate in:

Basic Capitol Workshop:  Provides an overview of Missouri state government and appropriate ways to engage policymakers.  This workshop is offered several times each fall.

Advanced Capitol Workshop:  Delves deeper into effective advocacy strategies for a particular topic (e.g.combating childhood obesity).  This workshop is open to graduates of the Basic Capitol Workshop or those with demonstrated advocacy experience. 

Regional Education Days:  Provides the opportunity for grantees to provide policymakers with insight to regional health concerns with the support and facilitation of MFH staff.

MFH Day at the Capitol:  The Foundation invites a representative sample of grantees to the State Capitol for an education day about grantee activities and the role of the Foundation across Missouri.
