Description: The Community Guide, developed by a non-FederalTask Force on Community Preventive Services, offers leadership in theevaluation of community, population and health care system strategies toaddress a variety of public health and health promotion topics. It includes a systematicreview of the effectiveness of selected population-based interventionsaddressing mental health within one of four levels of intervention: health-caresystem, preventive health promotion and support, media campaigns and policy.

Shaping Mental Health Services toward Recovery

Description: Initiated by the Substance Abuse and MentalHealth Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Mental Health Services(CMHS) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, this national project workstoward the fulfillment of three main goals. These include: 1) to help moreconsumers and families access services that are effective, 2) to help providersof mental health services develop the skills necessary to deliver effectiveservices and 3) to help administrators set up mechanisms to support andmaintain these effective services.

Description: The National Registry of Evidence-basedPrograms and Practices (NREPP), developed by the Substance Abuse and MentalHealth Services Administration (SAMHSA), is a searchable database of reviewedand rated interventions for the prevention and treatment of mental andsubstance use disorders. Information in the database includes descriptiveinformation about the intervention and its targeted outcomes, quality ofresearch and readiness for dissemination ratings, a list of studies andmaterials submitted for review, and contact information for the interventiondeveloper.

Description: The Ohio Substance Abuse and Mental IllnessCoordinating Center of Excellence (Ohio SAMI CCOE) provides technicalassistance for the implementation of the Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment(IDDT) model to service systems, organizations, and providers. The IDDT model isan evidence-based practice that improves the quality of life for people withco-occurring severe mental and substance use disorders. Services providedinclude systems consultation, program consultation, clinical consultation,training and education, and research and evaluation.

Description: The Co-Occurring Center for Excellence (COCE), launched by TheSubstance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in September2003, is the first national resource for the field of co-occurring mental healthand substance use disorders (COD).

Description: The CMHS leads the national system thatdelivers mental health services.
