Description: The Rural Healthy People 2010 project wants tomaximize the impact of Healthy People 2010 on health conditions in ruralAmerica. The project reviews 12 rural health priority areas, identified by anationwide survey of rural health leaders, and presents community-based Modelsfor Practice employed to address these priorities.

Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI)

Description: RUPRI conducts policy-relevant research andfacilitates public dialogue to assist policymakers in understanding the ruralimpacts of public policies and programs. RUPRI is housed within the Harry STruman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri-Columbia and is ajoint program of Iowa State University, the University of Missouri, and theUniversity of Nebraska.

Description: HRSA's Office of Rural Health Policy workswithin the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and in conjunctionwith other Federal agencies, States, national associations, foundations andprivate-sector organizations to seek solutions to health care problems in ruralcommunities. The Office also assists in developing rural health finance policy,particularly in terms of how Medicare and Medicaid programs affect access tohealth care for rural populations.

Description: The Rural Information Center (RIC), part of theNAL, provides information and referral services to local, state and federalgovernment officials; community organizations; rural electric and telephonecooperatives; libraries; businesses and rural citizens working to maintain thevitality of America's rural areas.

Information Available: A resource guide designed to helphospitals, clinics, community health centers and other rural health providerslearn more about various funding options to meet their capital needs. It is notintended to be comprehensive, but to represent examples of federal grants,direct loans and loan guarantee programs, foundation funding and otherresources that may be potential sources of capital support.



Rural Health Research Gateway

Description: The Rural Health Research Center (RHRC) Programis designed to help policy makers  betterunderstand the problems that rural communities face in assuring access tohealth care for their residents. This is the only Federal program that isdedicated entirely to producing policy-relevant research on health care inrural areas. Initiated in 1988, it is administered by the Office of RuralHealth Policy (ORHP), Health Resources and Services Administration.

Description: A product of the U.S. Department of Health andHuman Services’ Rural Initiative, the Rural Assistance Center (RAC) wasestablished in December 2002 as a rural health and human services “informationportal”.  RAC helps rural communities andother rural stakeholders access the full range of available programs, funding,and research that can enable them to provide quality health and human servicesto rural residents.

Description: MRHA was established in 1994 and became anaffiliate of the NationalRural Health Association (NRHA) as a state rural health association inFebruary 1995. Since that time, MRHA has received and managed two contractsfrom the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Office ofRural Health, for provision of health-related services and receives fundingfrom NRHA annually to provide education, training and networking opportunitiesfor the diverse mix of MRHA members.
