Charity Care at Missouri Hospitals, 2004 - 2006

This report examines how the 2005 changes to Medicaid have affected 40 Missouri hospitals, using data on uncompensated care and emergency department use. An executive summary is also available.

Consequences of the Lack of Health Insurance on Health and Earnings

This paper represents the first in the series emerging under the Cover MissouriProject. It examines the serious health and financial consequences associated with being uninsured, as well as the importance of health insurance as it relates to people's access to care, use of services and ultimately to their health outcomes.

Health Insurance Coverage of Dual-Income Families: The Free-Rider Effect and the Cost to Employers

This paper shows that companies providing health insurance to the spouses of their employees are assuming additional health care costs of more than $46 billion nationally, including $891 million for companies in the state of Missouri. It examines the “free-rider effect,” and the distribution of costs associated with employer-sponsored insurance (ESI) among dual-income families.

Geographic Variations in Health Insurance: A Profile of Missouri

This study examines trends in insurance coverage by geographic area and by subgroups such as age, ethnicity, income, and firm size. It also analyzes differences in the types of insurance that people have in large cities compared to rural communities and small cities throughout Missouri.

Health Care Expenditures and Insurance in Missouri

This paper presents an estimate of personal health care spending and the distribution of health insurance coverage in Missouri in the year 2003. Several data sources were used to develop estimates as no single repository for this varied information exists.
